Our Story

I began my estate planning journey while working for a medium-sized business firm in law school. At the firm I worked, every attorney offered estate planning to their business clients. Estate planning was a minor part of each attorneys’ practice, and thus typically ended up on my desk to be drafted. Almost immediately after beginning work for a firm, I was frustrated with my desire to help people and my ability to serve them in the capacity I wanted to.

I conducted a majority of the work I did on an hourly basis. When I was billing $250 an hour, my legal work needed to be completed as quickly as possible. Even when I was working on a flat rate project, I still kept my time to ensure the profit margin was high enough to justify the costs. This meant I needed to complete my estate planning tasks as quickly as possible, and meant time spent with the client was minimal.

In my experience with estate planning, each client experience was painfully repetitive. Each estate plan, no matter the clients’ particular circumstances, was a repeated template. There would be little to no assistance in the follow-up, or funding, process. This often looked like a follow up letter to discuss the client’s responsibility of changing the title of certain assets like a bank account. This meant the responsibility of making sure the estate plan worked as it should was solely in the hands of the client. These plans would often fail and result in probate administration to some degree for assets that were not properly funded into the estate plan.

With my knowledge of the failed plans I had worked on and my desire to help my community with their estate plans, I opened my own firm in November 2024, one week after receiving my bar results. I was 24, a baby lawyer, and a new business owner. I knew that although my goals were nontraditional, I had the opportunity to make a real change in the lives of my community.

So, here are some of the things we do differently based on my experience with the traditional model of estate planning.

  1. Nothing is billed on an hourly basis. Everything is billed on a flat fee, agreed to in advance, and catered to your particular plan. You’ll know exactly what it costs to work with us and you have a voice in creating your own fee. Then, after the initial planning process, we have options to ensure your plan stays up to date for life.
  2. We have a team here to support you through every step of the process. Since we are not trying to accomplish our work in the quickest way possible, we are here to assist with properly funding your estate plan. If you need to speak with me, we have staff on hand to get something scheduled so I can be prepared to tackle your questions as quickly as possible.
  3. We see planning as the beginning of a lifelong relationship rather a one-time transactional event. Once you sign your planning documents, that’s when the real relationship begins. We will review your plan every three years at no additional charge.
  4. Finally, we don’t just focus on passing your financial assets, but your whole family wealth. We provide a process with every plan that guides you to pass on more than your money—your intellectual, spiritual and human assets as well. We include this with every plan and us, our clients, and their families truly love this part of the planning.

These are just a few of the things we implement to try to differentiate our firm from traditional document-based estate planning. We’re the best fit for families who don’t want to leave behind a set of documents that may or not may work but instead want to use the estate planning process to pass on a legacy of love, care, and ease. And, most importantly, keep their family out of court and out of conflict.

On a personal note, I’m newly married and recognize how important protecting your family can be. My husband brings me the awareness of planning is something you do for the people you love the most. You won’t be the one to benefit from the plan you make, but the people you love the most will. So, before we get started talking about you and the people you love, do you have any questions about me, the firm, or anything else that I said or didn’t say?
